What is coaching?

Imagine that you have a very important decision to make that can change your life for the better or a dream that you want to pursue to increase your happiness. You are not sure which course of action will take you to your goal most effectively. Wouldn’t it be helpful to discuss the situation with a caring and objective person who can ask the kinds of questions that will ensure you have considered the options fully? That you have developed a solid plan of action before moving forward? Someone with experience and expertise to support you as you take steps to move from where you are now to where to want to be? Working with a coach can provide the helpful insight, solid plan and continuing follow up to ensure that you achieve the success you seek.

How do I work with you? I use the Positive Psychology Approach

I am a positive psychology coach. My approach centers on using the results of scientific research on what it takes for individuals to thrive and “to lead meaningful and fulfilling lives, to cultivate what is best within themselves, and to enhance their experiences of love, work, and play.” (Dr. Martin Seligman, one of the founders of Positive Psychology and who created The Positive Psychology Center at the University of Pennsylvania has defined it this way).

We design actions that build on your strengths that help you shift your mindset so that you create new habits and that increase your well-being and happiness. As a result of the research on what actually helps individuals increase their well-being and happiness, the actions that you choose to adopt, will work for you.

Together, we transform stumbling blocks into stepping stones so that you can move forward from where you are now to where you want to be. Together we create the actions and overcome the obstacles that support you on the journey. The focus is on giving you the opportunity “to think out loud and create possibilities” in partnership with the coach.

What do I expect from you in our coaching relationship?

I expect you to make a commitment to your future and to stay focused on moving forward. As we work together, you may discover a path beyond what you know now, or you may choose to pursue a course that you haven’t even thought about yet. I expect you to:

  • Be honest
  • Be on time for appointments
  • Pay your fees on time
  • Be willing to stretch by being open to new possibilities
  • Take the action(s) that you commit to taking in the session
  • Let me know what is working or not working in our coaching relationship so that we can make necessary changes that benefit you

Whether you are an individual or an executive working in a large organization, working with a coach can accelerate the change you want to make and provide you with support along the way.
